“Change
your mental habits to belief
instead of disbelief. Learn
to expect, not to doubt. In
so doing, you bring
everything into the realm of
possibility”
Pilates is an exercise system
developed by
the German-born athlete and physical
therapy pioneer, Joseph Hubertus
Pilates.
This practice focuses on
strengthening and stretching the
body resulting in long, lean
muscles.
PILATES
exercise is a system of sequential and precisely performed
movements,
each designed to
encourage the decompression of
joints, releasing tension, creating
a healthy balance between strength
and flexibility, improved blood
circulation, and a more expanded use
of breath resulting in improved posture and ease
of movement during daily activities, recreation and sports.
PILATES achieves this by
coordinating upper and lower body
musculature with the body's center.
PILATES low impact body maintenance
program been around since WWI.
Joseph H. PILATES's unique physical conditioning method has
turned into a world wide sensation with his fully comprehensive
exercise system and innovative equipment.
Although
only recently having been "rediscovered" by the athletic community,
PILATES offers one of the more optimum methods for conditioning the
body. Comprised of over
500 movements performed on
specialized equipment,
PILATES stretches and tones muscles while
reducing tension and strain from the joints and lower back. The
result is an increase in strength, grace, energy and flexibility.
PILATES
training is a radical departure from traditional exercise programs and
has had a surge in popularity in many parts of the country. In addition to
the growing number of PILATES conditioning studios, sports medicine
centers, physical therapists, orthopedic specialists and chiropractors
are adding
PILATES rehabilitation to their list of patient services.
The Workout
Pilates is practiced on the floor
(mat) and with special spring-loaded
equipment that simulates the
mechanics of human muscle tension.
Open level classes are offered on a
drop-in basis. Check our class schedule
for days and times. We also offer
Private Pilates sessions
as a successful approach to
rehabilitation from injury,
Pre- & Post-Partum conditioning
or for those trying to reach
specific training goals.
Pilates workouts
are custom designed to meet each client's goals and no two workouts
are the same. Pilates is a life-long process of training your body
with an expectation of health and wellness.
The Pilates Reformer is the single most effective piece of exercise equipment
for building a leaner, stronger
body, which is also why it has
become so popular. You will become
stronger, longer and more flexible.
With regular work on the Pilates Reformer you will recognize the natural, neutral shape of your spine and strengthen
the muscles that support it.
Who is PILATES for?
PILATES flexibility and core-conditioning
techniques are for
anyone who desire a firm but flexible body and for those who want to
move, work and play without pain. PILATES PERSONAL TRAINING
can be custom tailored to individuals of any
age or fitness level.
PILATES is a great fitness program
for persons of all agesand
fitness levels.
PILATES exercise
is equally effective for the retired, out-of-shape executive, or highly
trained athlete, because each student learns to work individually, applying
principles of good body mechanics to every exercise.
